Closet Staple: Houndstooth

One of my all time favorite prints happens to be a Fall/Winter necessity. From scarves, coats, skirts, houndstooth pieces are timeless and trendy all at once. Introduced in Scotland in the 1800s, houndstooth (made out of wool cloth) was worn as an outer garment by the Scottish shepards. Traditionally seen in menswear, Christian Dior popularized the abstract, jagged pattern on the runway with his trademark tweed suits and heels. Also known Shepard’s check or dogstooth this print has continued to be a favorite among design houses like Chanel, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent.

Afternoon tea at the Palace Hotel in downtown SF was the perfect occasion to break out my bold ensemble from Forever 21 . An affordable find, this $50 suit instantly made me feel expensive, rich, luxe…fancy AF. Completing the look, I paired it with a pussycat bow top, Barbie pink heels, pearl accents (stud earrings, hair barrette) and a quilted Chanel purse. The suit was purchased last winter and is currently unavailable but I linked below other houndstooth pieces that I have my eye on. Fall is well on it’s way and it’s a guarantee you’ll come across this print more then once.
